Women's Volleyball Wins Once at LA Mission Kickoff Classic

SYLMAR, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's volleyball team opened the season with four road matches in a two-day showing at the LA Mission Kickoff Classic, hosted by LA Mission College, over the weekend. 

Sophomore outside Emma Olney led the squad with a .256 hitting percentage on the weekend while tallying 60 kills and a team-best of 54 digs. Kaitlyn Vongvone paced the offense with 82 assists, averaging 6.31 per set, and registered a team-high of 10 aces. Bailey Ware opened her freshman campaign with five blocks, four of which were solo, while Ashlee Robinson added four. 

The Bulldogs (1-3) got off to a rough start after being swept on day one after a pair of three-set losses. They opened the season against El Camino College with final set scores of 17-25, 10-25, 17-25 on the board before falling that afternoon to Palomar College (18-25, 16-25, 10-25).  Day two saw improvements as Coach Phillips' squad opened action with a four-set victory over Southwestern (14-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-21) before falling short against Citrus College in straight sets (21-25, 18-25, 23-25).

Hancock is set to return to action on Friday, August 29th, at the Taft Triangular where they will face the hosting Cougards and Ohlone College.
