Bulldogs Snap Skid with Four Set Victory over LA Pierce
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's volleyball team snapped an eight-game losing streak after earning a decisive 3-1 home win over LA Pierce College on Wednesday night. | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs captured the first two sets (25-18, 25-20), dropped the third (16-25), and closed out the match with a confident 25-20 finish to secure their first Western State Conference (North) victory of the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Emma Olney led the attack with a match-high 23 kills while hitting .317 and adding 16 digs for a double-double. Setter Shanyce Valadez directed the offense with 34 assists, 15 digs, and three aces, while Madison Rice contributed seven kills and a block. Myranda Miranda and Ashlee Robinson rounded out the key front-row defense, each tallying a block and combining for eight points.
Hancock's (8-14, 1-7) serve-receive game made the difference; the home squad posted nine aces as Morgan Doss and Valadez each delivered multiple service winners. Doss also chipped in 15 digs, keeping long rallies alive throughout the night.
After taking control early in each of the opening sets, the Bulldogs weathered a third-set push from Pierce (4-9, 1-7) before regrouping in the fourth. Olney's late-set kills and Valadez's steady setting sealed the 25-20 clincher.
Hancock is scheduled to resume action at home on Friday, October 31st, against Moorpark College for another WSC showdown.
