Women's Volleyball Falls in Three at Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Allan Hancock College women's volleyball team battled early but fell in straight sets to Santa Barbara City College, the current league leader in the Western State Conference (North), on Friday night at the UCSB Robertson Gym: 22–25, 15–25, 13–25. | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs (7-13, 0-6) were led defensively by libero Jordyn Thomas who dug 16 balls in the match as AHC pushed the Vaqueros (16-1, 6-0) to 22 points in the opening set before the hosts closed it out. Outside Emma Olney paced the attack with eight kills and added 10 digs, while setter Shanyce Valadez distributed 19 assists and fired three aces to keep Hancock within reach throughout the night. Up front, Tiara Downing contributed a solo stuff and a block assist to go along with four kills from Madison Rice.
The serve and serve receive game proved to be a differientiating factor on the night as SBCC racked up 18 aces and the visiting crew tallied six serving errors. Hancock finished the night with a .065 hitting percentage as a team, compared to a .219 mark from the Vaqueros. Santa Barbara also dominated at the net with seven blocks compared to AHC's three.
Hancock is set to return to action on Friday, October 24th, with a road trip to LA Mission College for more WSC competition.
