Ten Baseball Players Named All-Conference; Four Receive Golden Glove Award
Recognized as the best defensive players in the conference at their position, four of the Allan Hancock College baseball team's starting players were named Gold Glove winners for the 2013 season and two were named Gold Glove of Division. Catcher Ryan Welker and pitcher Nathan Thompson were recognized as Gold Glove of Division. First baseman Felipe Gonzalez and third baseman Ryan Bendele were recognized as Gold Glove winners. All four players are freshmen and will be returning next season.
Overall the Bulldogs were well represented on the All-Western State Conference 2013 baseball team, with ten players making the list. Thompson was named to the WSC first team along with relief pitcher Mitchell St. Laurent. Thompson pitched 83 innings and finished the season with a 2.17 ERA. He pitched two shutouts and three complete games. St. Laurent had two saves and a 2.57 ERA. He pitched 42 innings for the Bulldogs.
Five Hancock players were named to the WSC second team: Gonzalez, first base; Jacob Witkowski, infield; Tommy Lininger, outfield; Kyle Smith, outfield; and Marc Bailey, pitcher. Ron Regalado, Marvin Fight and Preston Thomas received Honorable Mention.
