SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the first time in more than three decades, both the men's and women's cross country teams will represent Allan Hancock College at the 3C2A State Championship after solid performances at the Southern California Regional Championship over the weekend. The regional competition was held at the Naval Training Center Park in San Diego on Friday. | FULL RESULTS
The women's program took 16th place out of 20 scoring teams at the regional event in the 5,000-meter race. Peyton Miya led the way with a 21st place finish out of 147 racers after turning in a final time of 19:40.98. Fellow teammate Rylie Allen landed in the 26th slot (19:58.03), while Brianna Tello rounded out the top-100 for the Bulldogs in 85th (21:54.56). This marks the third consecutive appearance - and now longest streak in program history - for the women's team at the big race.
The men's team secured 12th place out of 27 scoring programs in the four-miler. John Gutierrez paced the AHC pack with an 11th place performance out of 187 competitors after clocking 20:40.75 as his final time. Erick Marceleno crossed next for Hancock in 42nd place (21:25.26) ahead of fellow top-100 finishers in Aidan Burke (85th, 22:20.56) and Victor Rojas (93rd, 22:30.03). Gutierrez, who took the runner-up spot at the state event last season, is the lone returner to the championship race on the men's side.
The 3C2A Cross Country State Championships are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 22nd, at Woodward Park in Fresno. Additional information about the event can be found on the 3C2A website.
