CHAMPION: Luu Wins 3C2A Women's Steeplechase Title
WALNUT, Calif. - Eva Luu headlined the final weekend of the Allan Hancock College track & field season after winning an individual title at the 3C2A State Championship, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, on May 15-16. | FULL RESULTS
Luu's championship finish came with a final time of 11:47.12 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase event. She is the only Bulldog in program history to walk away with a state title in this event and is the first to win any event since 2005. Luu is just the fourth member of the women's program to stand atop the podium at the final event, with other champions being Joyce Dendo (3,000m - 1977), Hermin Joseph (100m & 200m - 1992), and Bobbie Patton (shot put - 2005).
Abigail Aponte took fourth in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 45.22 meters, while Mychael Walker placed fourth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.79 meters. Both, along with Luu, earned All-American honors for their performances.
John Gutierrez wrapped up the list of finishers after placing 9th in the men's 5,000-meter race (15:20.33).
