SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's soccer team secured its first win of the season after topping LA Valley College, 3-2, at home on Friday in a non-conference showdown. The Bulldogs (1–1–2) struck twice after the halftime break, despite playing down a player for the entire second period. | BOX SCORE
Janeth Davalos delivered a brace, opening the scoring in the 9th minute off a service from Symphony Lozano and breaking a 1–1 tie in the 56th on a setup from Raquel Schmid. Schmid then netted the eventual winner in the 70th, tucking away Lozano's second assist of the day for a 3–1 cushion. LA Valley pulled one back in the 86th, but the home squad closed it out down the stretch.
Hancock's resolve was tested when starting goalkeeper Sam Patchin received a red card during the added stoppage time period in the first half due to a last-man foul. Field player Alexia Medina donned the gloves for the second half and came up big, recording three saves in the final 45 minutes—including stops in the 83rd, 85th, and 87th minutes as the Monarchs made a late push. Patchin had a first-half penalty save in the 23rd minute to preserve the early lead.
The Bulldogs finished with a 15–11 edge in shots (7–6 on target) and led 1–0 at the break before LA Valley equalized in the 46th.
Up next for the program is a road trip to Antelope Valley College on Tuesday, September 9th, for a non-conference showing.
