FOLSOM, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team continued its early-season road stretch with a pair of hard-fought matchups at the Folsom Lake College Crossover. The Bulldogs fell in overtime on day one to San Mateo College before closing the weekend with a loss to Butte College on day two.
GAME ONE: SAN MATEO 58, ALLAN HANCOCK 50 (OT) | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs pushed San Mateo to the limit in a defensive slugfest, leading stretches of the second half before the SMC forced overtime and pulled away late for a 58-50 finish.
Freshman guard Iraya Bell-Jackson caught fire from long range, drilling four triples on her way to a season-high 20 points. Sophomore forward Anastasia Drolette turned in a balanced stat line with seven points, eight rebounds, and six steals, while Sophonnie Felix added nine points and Moncerat Campos chipped in five points and three boards.
Hancock held San Mateo to just 28 percent shooting and 17 percent from three, forcing 26 turnovers with active hands on the perimeter. The Bulldogs shot 46 percent from beyond the arc themselves, hitting 6-of-13 tries. After trailing 26–16 at halftime, AHC surged with 28 second-half points, knotting the game at 44–44 at the end of regulation before San Mateo closed the extra frame with a 14–6 spurt.
GAME TWO: BUTTE 82, ALLAN HANCOCK 39 | BOX SCORE
Hancock met a high-tempo Butte squad and struggled to recover from an early deficit in the neutral-site finale on day two, falling 82–39.
Drolette and Bell-Jackson again led the Bulldogs with 10 points apiece, while Felix battled for five points and a team-high of six rebounds off the bench. Alyssa Reyes and Aileen Hernandez Zavala rounded out the top scorers for Hancock after chipping in with four points each.
As a team, AHC finished the day with a 21.7 percent showing from the field while the Roadrunners turned in a 36.0 percent mark. Butte also won the rebounding battle handily with a 48-26 advantage on the boards and forced the Bulldogs to commit 31 turnovers.
Coach Smith's squad is set to resume action with another two-day trip at the Comet Crossover. They will face the hosting Palomar College crew on Friday (Nov. 14) before dealing with Mt. San Jacinto College in a neutral contest on Saturday (Nov. 15).
