SOFTBALL FALLS SHORT AGAINST GLENDALE
SANTA MARIA-- In a game that was re-scheduled twice because of rain, the Allan Hancock College women's softball team fell to Glendale, 7-2.
Hancock (6-20, 1-4 WSC North), fell behind early when Glendale scored three runs in the first. The Bulldogs scored once in the second when a single by Brenna Mackaprang slipped by the Vaquero right-fielder. Glendale would score two more in the fifth when the starting pitcher, Kristin Carr homered off of Bulldog starter, Angela Martinez, after Martinez walked the left-fielder with two outs. In the bottom of the fifth, Julie Ortiz doubled with one out, and with two outs, Acevedo doubled her home.
The Bulldog defense played well in keeping the game close, turning two double plays in the first four innings, while catcher Vanessa Acevedo threw out four would-be base stealers in the same span.
AHC would have nine hits in the game, three by Ortiz and two each by Acevedo and Mackeprang. Each of the three hit a double in the game.
Hancock next plays this Thursday, Mar. 31 at 1:00 p.m., when they host L.A. Pierce for a doubleheader.
