CUESTA TAKES TWO IN SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER
SANTA MARIA-- The Allan Hancock College softball team was swept in a Western State Conference North doubleheader to Cuesta College, 12-1 and, 13-5.
Hancock (5-17, 0-2 WSC North) was trailing just, 4-1, heading into the sixth inning of game one, before Cuesta scored four runs in each of the last two innings.
After Cuesta scored two in the first inning, Hancock scored their run in the second when Regina Goold hit her second home run of the season. Starting pitcher Angela Martinez had two hits for the Bulldogs, a single and a double. Vanessa Acevedo hit a double, while Julie Ortiz added a single.
In game two, Cuesta scored four runs in the first off Martinez, before she was replaced by Ortiz. Trailing 8-0 in the fourth, the Bulldogs exploded for five runs. Acevedo scored on an error after doubling to lead off the inning. Stacy Davis hit an RBI double to score Janelle Nunez, who had reached on the error. Brenna Mackeprang followed with another single. Regina Garza knocked in Davis with another single. Mackeprang and Garza scored when Julie Ortiz singled, then reached second on an error. Cuesta answered back with five runs of their own in the fifth for the final scoring.
Hancock will next play on Thursday, Mar. 17 at Santa Barbara, in another WSC North doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
