SOFTBALL SHUTDOWN BY BAKERSFIELD
SANTA MARIA-- The Allan Hancock College softball team was shutout by Western State Conference South powerhouse Bakersfield, 10-0, at the Hancock softball field.
Hancock (4-15) sent out picher Julie Ortiz (Fr., Santa Maria HS) as a last minute starter and she struggled in her two innings. Bakersfield scored four runs in the second with the help of two errors, one walk, three wild pitches and two hits. That made the score, 5-0 after an inning and a half.
Ortiz moved to shortstop in the third and was replaced on the mound by Angela Martinez, Martinez allowed one run in the third. Bakersfield exploded for another four runs in the fourth on four hits and an third Bulldog error.
The Bulldogs could only manage three hits on the day, two from Ortiz who was batting in the lead-off spot.
Hancock next plays on Thursday, Mar. 10, when they host Conference rival Cuesta for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
