FIVE AHC SOFTBALL PLAYERS EARN WSC RECOGNITION
SANTA MARIA-- Five members of the Allan Hancock College softball team earned Western State Conference recognition for their on-field performance in the 2004 season.
Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Silva (Righetti HS) was named to the All-WSC first team. For the season, Silva batted .485 (eighth among the WSC leaders), drove in 18 runs (sixth in the WSC), had six triples (second in the WSC); five doubles; tied for the league lead with three home runs and led the conference with 21 stolen bases.
Named to the all-conference second team were sophomore first-baseman Nikka Miller (Righetti HS) and sophomore pitcher Crystal Garcia (Santa Maria HS). Miller tied with Silva for the conference lead in home runs with three, ranked third in RBIs with 26 and ranked fifth in the conference with four triples. Garcia, who batted .327 for the year, also pitched a conference-high 105.1 innings, struck out 59 and finished with a 3.27 earned run average.
Freshman catcher Lena Felix and sophomore second-baseman Natalie Ballesteros were both named honorable mention. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 10-21 overall record and were 9-13 in the WSC, fifth in the final Northern Division standings.
