SOFTBALL FALLS TO CANYONS IN WSC OPENER, 5-1

SANTA MARIA-- The Allan Hancock College softball team fell to visiting College of the Canyons, 5-1, in its 2004 home and Western State Conference opener on Tuesday.

Hancock (1-7, 0-1 WSC) gave up two runs in the top-half of the first inning and trailed throughout the contest. The Bulldogs made it interesting in the final inning, however, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate.

Sophomore Stephanie Silva finished with two of AHC's three hits for the game, going 2-for-3, including a solo home run and a double.

The Bulldogs will continue their WSC schedule on Thursday, in a 2:30 p.m. start at Glendale College.
