TAFT TAKES TWO FROM WOMEN'S SOFTBALL TEAM
TAFT-- The Allan Hancock College women's softball team was swept in a non-conference double-header at Taft College on Thursday, 12-2 and 5-4.
Hancock (1-6) fell behind early in the first game and never challenged the Cougars, but had a 4-3 lead in the seventh before losing Game 2, 5-4.
Taft came out swinging in the first game, posting four runs in the bottom-half of the first and then scoring five in the second. From then on the two team played virtually even. Starting pitcher Lena Felix took the loss for AHC.
In the second game, the Bulldogs used a four-run fourth inning to take the lead into the final inning of play but gave up two runs in Taft's final at-bat to lose. Crystal Garcia pitched well in the 5-4 loss.
The Bulldogs will open their 2004 home schedule with a Western State Conference game against College of the Canyons next Tuesday (Feb. 17) beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the campus diamond.
