NEXT LEVEL: John Gutierrez Moving On to Fresno Pacific
FRESNO, Calif. - Allan Hancock College distance standout, John Gutierrez, will continue his dual-sport career at Fresno Pacific University next season as a member of both the cross country and track & field programs.
"Fresno Pacific gave me the opportunity to take the next step in my academic and athletic career. What stood out most was the amount of interest and belief the coaching staff showed in me throughout the process," Gutierrez shared. "Their vision for the program matched my goals, and I wanted to be a part of a team that competes at a high level while pushing their athletes to be their best. I'm excited for the challenge of NCAA Division II competition and to represent the Sunbirds this fall."
Gutierrez closes the chapter on his junior college career after spending two seasons as a dual-sport athlete for the Bulldogs, etching his name in the record books for both the cross country and the track & field teams. The product of Pioneer Valley High School exits with a decorated resume that includes two Western State Conference Champion titles, two All-American awards, and a 3C2A State Champion runner-up finish. He also broke the school record in the men's 3,000-meter race this spring with a time of 8:49.19.
"AHC helped build me into the athlete and person that I am today. The program taught me discipline, consistency, and how to compete when the pressure is at its highest. During my time here, I was able to make history with my performances and accolades. More importantly, AHC taught me how to trust the process, stay committed to my goals, and compete with confidence," Gutierrez added. "Those lessons will stay with me as I continue my career at Fresno Pacific."
The Sunbirds are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the PacWest Conference.
