Track & Field Snags Five Titles at WSC Championship, Garbiso Collects Men's Field Athlete of the Meet Honors
MOORPARK, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs continued competition at the Western State Conference Finals, hosted at Moorpark College, on Friday afternoon. | FULL RESULTS
The top three finishers for each event earned First Team All-Conference recognition, while those in 4th-6th place were Second Team All-Conference, and individuals landing at 7th-9th were All-Conference Honorable Mention.
The men's team finished in fifth place out of 11 scoring programs. Jacob Garbiso headlined the event for the Bulldogs by claiming championship titles in both the hammer throw and the shot put (14.50m) while being honored as the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet. His heave of 49.90 meters breaks the previous school record of 47.77 meters that was set by Jared Springer in 2015. Garbiso also took second in the discus (43.22m). John Gutierrez earned a conference title in the 10,000 meter race with a final time of 32:47.74, while Mychael Walker was tops in the triple jump after posting a mark of 14.45 meters.
The women's team took sixth out of 10 scoring teams. Eva Luu led the way with a conference champion performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase event after clocking a final time of 11:47.55. She also took second in the 10,000 meter race with a 40:06.34 finish. Abigail Aponte was the runner-up in the women's hammer throw with a 41.85 meter mark.
Qualifying individuals will advance to the SoCal Prelims event, hosted at Bakersfield College, on May 2nd.
