Hancock Men's Soccer Hosts Oxnard in Final Home Game of Season
The Hancock soccer team will look to ends the season with two conference wins this week. The Bulldogs are 2-5-1 in Western State Conference action and 10-7-3 overall. The Bulldogs will host Oxnard on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in their final home game of the year before traveling to LA Mission on Friday, Nov. 10. Both matches will start at 3 p.m.
Last week, Hancock played second-place Santa Monica to a 1-1 draw on the road. Sophomore Francisco Ayala (Pioneer Valley HS) scored the game-tying goal in the second half. It wsa Ayala's fourth goal of the season and third in a five-game stretch. Sophomore Migel Gomez (Cabrillo HS) was credited with the assist on the goal, his 17th of the year. Freshman goalie Antony Herrera (Righetti HS) had four saves in goal. Later in the week, Hancock fell 3-2 at home to Moorpark. Gomez scored Hancock's first goal in the first half and was assisted by Isaac Valdez (Pioneer Valley HS). Juan Rios (Pioneer Valley HS) netted the team's second goal late in the second half on a ball assisted by Gomez. Herrera compiled nine saves in the loss.
Freshman Ulysses Cardona (Lompoc HS) and Gomez are tied for the conference lead with 13 goals. They rank fourth in the state. Gomez sits fourth in the state with 18 assists and third with 44 total points.
Oxnard enters this week 4-4 in league and 11-7-1 overall. The Bulldogs led Oxnard in their first meeting 2-1 in the second half, until the Condors scored four goals in a 16-minute stretch to win 5-2. Gomez and Cardona accounted for Hancock's goals.
LA Mission is 0-6-2 in league and 4-11-4 on the year. Hancock erased a 2-0 second-half deficit with three goals in a 10-minute stretch for a 3-2 come-from-behind win last month against Mission. Gomez, Cardona and Ayala each scored once in the win. Javier Moran is Mission's leading scorer with 11 goals.
