MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO CANYONS, 2-1
SANTA MARIA-- College of the Canyons scored twice in the early going, then made it stand up in a 2-1 Western State Conference win over the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team Friday.
Hancock (5-5-5, 3-2-0 WSC) started slowly, giving up goals to the visiting Cougars in the fifth and 10th minutes. Canyons followed with a conservative, defensive style to hold on for the victory. In contrast, Hancock was forced into a frantic game of catch-up.
The Bulldogs cut the margin in half in the 20th minute, when Edgar Miranda scored off a break-away pass from Ivan Gomez. AHC settled down defensively and made a strong second-half rally in the Cougar zone, but was unable to score.
Hancock plays a pair of key WSC road matches next week, visiting Moorpark on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and L.A. Mission on Friday at 2 p.m. in a make-up match that was postponed due to the Chatsworth Fire back on Sept. 30.
