MEN'S SOCCER AMBUSHED AT SANTA BARBARA, 5-0
SANTA BARBARA-- A ready and motivated Santa Barbara City College men's soccer team made a strong Western State Conference statement Tuesday, posting a 5-0 victory over visiting Allan Hancock at La Playa Stadium.
Coach Al Garcia's Bulldogs (3-2-1, 0-1-1), which have won two consecutive WSC crowns and three in the last four years, were down 2-0 by the nine minute mark of the first half. In the 35th minute, a red-card ejection on a questionable call in the Hancock goal mouth not only gave SBCC a penalty kick and a 3-0 lead, it left the Bulldogs a man down for the final 55 minutes of the contest.
"We played hard and actually played well from there," said Garcia, "but being a man down to a quality team like that was just too much to overcome. They finally just wore us out and you have to give them credit. They're a strong team and we're in a very tough league."
Despite the loss, Garcia praised the play of freshman mid-fielder Brett Mullinax (Yorba Linda) and sophomore forward John Mooney (Atascadero). The Bulldogs face another severe test on Friday, when they host high-flying WSC-foe Los Angeles Valley in a 4:00 p.m. start at AHC Field
