Bulldogs fall again in own tournament
A day after losing for the first time this season, Hancock College's men's soccer team went down again Sunday, this time to a team it had beaten handily earlier in the week.
The Bulldogs lost 1-0 to Taft in the fifth-place game of the Hancock Summer Classic on a Ricardo Gutierrez goal midway through the second half.
Goalie Jason Hancock made a nice initial save on the play, coming out from his goal to stop a breakaway. But the rebound came directly to Gutierrez's foot and was easily put in the net for the game's only goal.
The Bulldogs (6-2) had several scoring chances later in the half—two off indirect free kicks from Billy Barbaree—but never converted. On Thursday, Hancock beat Taft 5-2.
In the championship game, Compton beat Fresno City 2-1 in double overtime. The game featured 12 cautions and four red cards.
LA City beat Napa Valley 2-1 in the third-place game.
