Hancock Men's Basketball Falls 67-65 to College of the Sequoias in Season Opener
Kevawn Lord scored 13 points to lead a trio of Bulldogs in double-digits, but the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team dropped a 67-65 decision to College of the Sequoias at a tournament hosted by Cuesta College on Friday. Hancock, the No. 20 team in the Southern California Preseason Poll, fell to 0-1 and will return to action Saturday at 5 p.m. against West Hills Coalinga during day two of the tournament.
Freshman forward Marc Fabricius scored eight of his 12 points in the first half as the Bulldogs carried a 35-31 lead into halftime. The two teams went back and forth the final 20 minutes. Lord, a sophomore transfer from Cuesta, paced the Bulldogs with eight of his 13 points coming in the second half. The season opener was tied 61-61 with less than three minutes to play in the game, before coming down to defense and free throws.
Deon Whiteside finished with 10 points for the Bulldogs. The sophomore transfer from Northeast Community College in Nebraska made four of his eight free throws in the first half, and 6 of 12 in the game.
