Bulldogs Show Fight but Fall 31–14 to No. 3 Ventura
SANTA MARIA, Calif. — The Allan Hancock College football team fought hard but couldn't overcome a slow start and a flurry of second-quarter scores from No. 3-ranked Ventura College, falling 31–14 on Saturday afternoon at the AHC Football Field. The Bulldogs outscored the Pirates in the second half and rushed for over 200 yards, but turnovers and red-zone miscues proved costly in the National Northern League matchup. | BOX SCORE
The visiting Pirates (6-0, 3-0 NNL) jumped out quickly, scoring on their opening drive with a 24-yard touchdown in the first four minutes of action. After back-to-back drives ended in punts for both sides, Ventura took advantage of a short field opportunity following an interception nearly six minutes later and doubled the deficit for AHC with a 1-yard plunge.
Hancock (3-3, 2-1) answered early in the second quarter, grinding out 65 yards in nine plays behind a heavy dose of the ground game. Kyle Williams powered the ball in from a yard out to cut the deficit to 14–7 after Raymond Escobedo's extra point. Despite the comeback effort, VC's offense kept rolling—adding two more touchdowns, including a 3-yard rushing score and a short strike, before tacking on a 23-yard field goal just before halftime to take a 31–7 lead into the locker room.
The Bulldogs regrouped and controlled the tempo after halftime. The home defense forced punts on Ventura's first two drives of the third quarter, and the AHC offense finally broke through late in the period. Elijah Little capped a 68-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to trim the margin to 31–14.
Hancock's defense stiffened, keeping the visitors off of the scoreboard in the second half while forcing a pair of turnovers. Justyce Roserie provided a highlight with a 52-yard interception return, and Connor Wiles led the charge with 12 tackles and a forced fumble. AHC drove deep into Pirates territory early in the final frame, but came up empty on fourth down inside the 10-yard line as VC held on to remain unbeaten.
