Football: Ground Game Powers Bulldogs to 39–20 Win Over Santa Ana
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College football team returned to the win column with a commanding 39–20 home victory over Santa Ana College, riding a dominant rushing attack and a stingy defense in the National Northern League opener at home on Saturday afternoon. | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs (2–2, 1–0 NNL) set the tone early with a 17-yard touchdown run from Semaj Carmichael midway through the first quarter. Hancock added two more rushing scores in the second frame, a 5-yard dash by Torrell Harley and a 9-yard run by Carmichael, to build a 21–0 lead. Santa Ana (0-3, 0-1 NNL) responded late in the opening half on a 59-yard scoring strike, but the home squad answered immediately with a momentum-swinging after Dylan Heath blocked a PAT attempt and returned it 97 yards for a safety. That effort sent Hancock into halftime ahead 23–6.
Cash Carter punched in a 1-yard score in the third frame. The Dons closed within 30–20 behind two passing touchdowns before Carmichael delivered the knockout blow — a 48-yard touchdown burst that capped his third score of the day. Hancock's defense sealed the win with a fourth-quarter safety after forcing the Dons to commit an intentional grounding penalty in their own end zone.
