Bulldogs Fall Flat in Loss at Bakersfield, 33-7
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Despite forcing three takeaways—including a 59-yard pick-six by sophomore safety Dylan Heath—in a non-conference showing at Bakersfield College on Saturday evening, the Allan Hancock College football team suffered a 33–7 road loss at Memorial Stadium. | BOX SCORE
The lopsided affair saw Bakersfield exit the contest with 377 yards of total offense while the visiting crew only mustered 137 yards. The most notable difference came in the ground game with BC recording 189 net rushing yards compared to just nine in total for the Bulldogs.
The hosting Renegades (2-0) jumped out to an early lead with a team safety and a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter, followed by an early touchdown in the second to lead 12-0. Heath jump-started the Bulldogs with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown at 10:46 of the second quarter, and Raymond Escobedo added the PAT to trim the deficit to five at the intermission. Jacob Nelson and TJ Chandler also came up with big plays for the defense in the first half after notching a 13-yard interception and a fumble recovery, respectively.
Bakersfield answered to open the third with an 87-yard touchdown pass and added another late in the frame before punching in a fourth-quarter score. The Bulldogs' defense piled up 2 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and 3 takeaways, led by Connor Wiles (9 tackles, 1.0 sack), Malo Ino (8 tackles), Fika Salatielu (1.0 sack), and Mikey Gills (0.5 sack).
On offense, quarterback Drake Missamore went 17-for-27 for 128 yards, with Roling Davis (6 rec, 60 yds) and Tommy Vibabul (4 rec, 29 yds) pacing the receivers. Tay Armstrong Jr. totaled 85 kickoff return yards (long 21). Punter Jordan Orcutt dropped three inside the 20, despite one block (7 punts, 47 long).
Hancock is set to return to action on Friday, Sept. 13, with a road trip to Golden West College for the final non-conference game of the season. That game is scheduled to begin at 1 PM in Huntington Beach.
