FOOTBALL RACKS UP RECORD SCORE IN WSC OPENER VICTORY
SANTA BARBARA-- The Allan Hancock College football team rushed for over 400 yards in a wild, 58-35 victory over Western State Conference foe Santa Barbara, in the conference opener for both teams.
Hancock (2-1, 1-0 WSC) rolled throught the Santa Barbara defense for 411 yards, 228 from RB Drew Williams (So., Queens, NY). Williams, in his most productive game of his Hancock career, averaged 7.6 yards per carry, and tied a school record by scoring five touchdowns in the game. Redell Windley vs. Ventura (1976) and Sheldon Canley vs. Porterville (1986) each scored five touchdowns for the Bulldogs in a single game as well.
Anthony Melton (So., Delano, CA) rushed for 71 yards in nine carries and a touchdown before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Shaun Stewart (Fr., Queens, NY) added 64 yards in nine carries. Corey Stollmeyer (Fr., Morro Bay) in his first action as tailback scored a touchdown on a one-yard plunge in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Jonathan Dally (Fr., Righetti HS) only threw nine passes, but completed seven for 90 yards. Tight-end Matt Sims (Fr., Lompoc HS) led all receivers with four catches for 44 yards and one TD.
The 58 points put up by AHC was the most ever scored against the Vaqueros. Twice the Bulldogs have scored 56 points on the Vaqueros, 56-18, in 1963 with John Madden as head coach and in 1998 with a 56-3 victory under Barney Eames. It was also the tenth straight victory for Hancock over SBCC.
Hancock will be home next Saturday, Sept. 24, when they host the Ventura Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Last year, Ventura scored a come-from-behind, 27-26 victory at Righetti High School.
