FOOTBALL TROUNCES VENTURA AT HOME
SANTA MARIA-- In it's most balanced victory of the season, the Allan Hancock College football team routed Ventura 48-10, in a Western State Conference North contest.
Hancock (3-1, 2-0 WSC) won their third straight game, and second in conference play, by controlling the clock and dominating on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs held the ball for over 37 minutes as they rolled up 564 yards of total offense. Once again led by running back Drew Williams (So., Queens, NY), who ran for 144 yards on 22 carries, AHC rushed the ball for 414 yards and a 6.8 average per rush.
The Bulldogs scored four touchdowns through the air, with starting quarterback Jonathon Dally (Fr., Righetti HS) connecting on three first half scores. The first came on a 38 yard strike to Curtis Chatmon (So., Lompoc HS) with ten minutes left in the first quarter, to cap off a five play, 61 yard drive. Victor Velasco (So., Santa Maria HS) added a 32 yard field goal to make the score 10-0, at the end of the quarter.
After Velasco converted a 37 yard field goal, Hancock scored two quick touchdowns to end the half. With 1:18 left, Dally completed a 22 yard touchdown pass to Derek Sedin (So., Righetti), then hit Sedin for a 18 yard TD less than a minute later. With Velasco's extra points, AHC led 27-0 at the half.
Ventura took the opening drive of the second half and moved 80 yards on nine plays, which led to a 33 yard field goal by Robby Smith. The Bulldogs answered right back driving 82 yards on 10 plays, ending with a 22 yard scamper by Corey Stollmeyer (Fr., Morro Bay HS), to make the score 34-3. The drive took 5:02 off the clock. A five and a half minute, 13 play drive ending with a Shaun Stewart (Fr., Queens, NY) five yard run, finished off the scoring in the third.
After an Aaron Brown touchdown for Ventura at the 11:36 mark of the fourth quarter, Hancock, being led by back-up QB Matt Hanson (Fr., Cabrillo HS), went on a time consuming, eight play, eighty yard drive that took almost six minutes. Hanson ended the scoring with a nine-yard TD pass to a wide open Dominic Catayas (Fr., St. Joseph HS) in the end zone.
Defensively, the Bulldog first team was magnificent. Coming into the game, wide receiver Charles Dillon led the conference in total yards, averaging 205 yards gained from scrimmage in the first three games. Dillon ended the night with just five receptions for 63 yards. He fumbled the ball after a 14 yard reception to set up the last Hancock score of the first half. Luke Deras (So., Righetti HS) led the defense with seven tackles and one sack. Lineman Josh Wiiliams (Fr., New Hampton, NH) had five and Hans Guy (Fr., Morro Bay), starting in place of injured linebacker, Rick Aguilar, added four tackles. The Ventura offense ended the night going 0 for eight on third down conversions.
AHC will next play on Saturday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m., when they host the L.A. Pierce Brahmas at Righetti High School's Warrior Stadium.
