FOOTBALL SCORES RECORD 81 POINTS IN ROUT OF SANTA MONICA
SANTA MONICA-- The Allan Hancock College football team toppled more rushing and scoring records as they began the second half of the 2005 season with an 81-38 rout of Santa Monica, in a Western State Conference cross-over game.
Hancock (5-1, 3-0 WSC North) compiled a total of 667 yards of offense, breaking a record of 641set against L.A. Southwest in 2001. With 81 points, AHC surpassed the record of 76 set in 1970 against West Hills. Running back Drew Williams (So., Queens, NY) scored five touchdowns in the game, matching his record tying performance against Santa Barbara on Sept. 17.
Williams scored on runs of 25, 16, 3, 10 and 6 yards on the night and finished with 127 yards total on 17 carries. Corey Stollmeyer (Fr., Morro Bay) ran for 156 yards on only nine carries, which included a spectacular 65 yard TD scamper in the third quarter, where he started right, reversed field and picked up many excellent blocks down the left sideline. Stollmeyer also added a seven yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Shaun Stewart (Fr., Queens, NY) added 77 yards with eight carries and 17 yard touchdown in the second. Paul Jordan (So., San Luis Obispo HS) scored a TD in the fourth on a six yard carry while rushing for 50 yards and Desmond Patrick (Fr., Aliquippa, PA) added a 15 yard run for a touchdown to end the scoring rampage.
Quarterback Jonathon Dally (Fr., Righetti HS) was 13 for 18 throwing the ball for a total of 207 yards. Wide receiver Derek Sedin (So., Righetti) caught six passes for 112 yards, which included a five yard TD reception from Dally to open the scoring for the Bulldogs.
The Hancock defense struggled early, allowing Santa Monica to score on it's first three possessions. AHC trailed 17-14 early in the second before scoring four touchdowns and getting a Victor Velasco (So., Santa Maria HS) 32 yard field goal before the intermission to take a 46-17 lead at the half. Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter and then Hancock outscored SMC, 21-7 in the fourth.
Three Santa Monica passes were intercepted on the night. Donald White (So., Lompoc HS), Lafe Viker (So., Righetti) and Joshua Mitchell (So., St. Joseph HS) each had a pick for the Bulldogs. Mitchell also recovered a fumble.
Hancock returns to WSC North play when they host the L.A. Valley Monarchs on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Righetti High School. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
