BIG FIRST HALF LEADS TO AN EASY FOOTBALL VICTORY
SANTA MARIA-- Tying a defensive record of six interceptions in a game, the Allan Hancock College football team cruised to a Western State Conference victory over Los Angeles Valley College, 55-28.
Hancock (6-1, 4-0 WSC North) tied a record set in 1970 against Porterville and in 1979 against Mira Costa. Donald White (So., Lompoc HS) and Luke Deras (So., Righetti HS) each had two interceptions on the night, while Andre Lipscomb (Fr., Richmond, VA) and Gary Tuttle (Fr., Sonora, CA) adding single interceptions.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring on the third play of the game , when Drew Williams (So., Queens, NY) scampered 62 yards for a touchdown just 1:23 into the game. He would score another touchdown at the 6:14 mark in the second quarter on a one-yard plunge. Williams, the leading scorer in the WSC, now has 15 touchdowns on the year. Anthony Melton (So., Delano, CA) returned to action for the first time since suffering an ankle injury on Sept. 17 against Santa Barbara. He would rush 12 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns, 11 yards in the first, one yard in the second and 18 yards in the third. Corey Stollmeyer (Fr., Morro Bay HS) scored the sixth rushing TD on a one yard run in the third.
Jonathon Dally (Fr., Righetti) was again quite efficient at quarterback, connecting on five of six passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Curtis Chatmon (So., Lompoc) caught a 41 yard bomb in the first quarter for a TD, then Dally hit tight end Matt Sims (Fr., Lompoc) with a nine yard touchdown in the second.
L.A. Valley QB, Corey Jones had two touchdown passes in the first half. In the second half the Monarchs scored on a 72 yard punt return by Garrett Feig and a 65 yard fumble recovery and run by DB Steve Johnson.
Defensively, AHC was led by Hans Guy (Fr., Morro Bay) and Luke Deras (So., Righetti) with six tackles each and Matt Leyden (So., Santa Maria) with five. Linebacker Rick Aguilar (So., Lompoc) returned after missing three full games, and contributed four tackles.
Hancock will next play on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Santa Clarita verses the number one ranked team in the state, College of the Canyons, in a battle for first place in the WSC North. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast locally on KUHL 1440 AM and KTME 1410 AM, with the pre-game at 6:30.
