FOOTBALL LIGHTS UP SCOREBOARD IN SEASON OPENING WIN OVER EAST L.A.
SANTA MARIA--The Allan Hancock College football team scored every time it had the ball in the first half and cruised to a 47-18 victory over East Los Angeles at Righetti High School, in the Bulldogs' season and home opener.
The Bulldogs compiled 484 total yards, including 312 on the ground. Drew Williams (Fr., Queens, NY) scored two touchdowns in the first half and ended with 120 yards on just seven carries to lead the way. Teammate Anthony Melton (Fr., Delano,CA) added 67 yards on 10 carries and also scored two touchdowns.
Neither team could be stopped in the first quarter as AHC led 26-15 going into the second. The Bulldogs virtually put the game away in the second quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points before halftime.
East L.A. added a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring. The second half was a sloppy affair, as Bulldog coaches cleared the bench.
Wide receiver Ryan Bugg (So., Atascadero HS) led all receivers, making five receptions for 109 yards, two of them for touchdowns. Starting quarteback Andrew Jones (So., Lompoc HS) completed 5-of-9 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Back-up quarterback Blake Sartini (Fr., Las Vegas) also threw a TD and finished 5-for-10 for 63 yards.
The Bulldogs travel to Coalinga next Saturday, for a 1 p.m. kickoff at West Hills College. The game will be broadcast live on the Central Coast on KUHL/Santa Maria and KTME/Lompoc, with a pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m.
