FOOTBALL SHUTOUT BY HIGHLY RANKED COLLEGE OF CANYONS
SANTA CLARITA, CA - The Allan Hancock College football team knew it was facing a tough challenge at nationally ranked College of the Canyons. What the Bulldogs didn't expect was being shut out by the Cougars, 51-0.
Hancock (2-2, 0-2 WSC) dropped their second straight Western State Conference game while being shut out for the first time since the 1991 season. It was the third largest deficit by shutout in the school's history. The largest was a 53-0 drubbing by Moorpark in 1985. In 1958, the Bulldogs lost 52-0 to College of the Sequoias.
AHC was never able to mount a serious threat in the game, trailing 17-0 after the first quarter and 34-0 at halftime. The Canyons defense limited Hancock to just 115 yards rushing, well below the season average of 240.
One highlight for the Bulldogs was the receiving of freshman Derik Sedin (Righetti HS), who caught six passes for 68 yards. Billy Vinnage (Fr., Arroyo Grande HS) averaged 42.0 yards in his seven punts on the night.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound Saturday, when they host undefeated Bakersfield at Righetti High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KUHL AM-1440/Santa Maria and KTME AM-1410/Lompoc, with a pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.
