FOOTBALL POSTS IMPORTANT WIN AT L.A. VALLEY, 30-13
VAN NUYS-- In a game that the Allan Hancock College football team needed to win, the Bulldogs scored two huge touchdowns in the last seven minutes of the fourth quarter to pull away to a 30-13 victory over Los Angeles Valley College.
Hancock (5-3, 3-2 WSC) struggled in the second half on offense after building a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and a half. Valley was able to put 10 points on the board late in the second quarter to pull within 13-10 at halftime. Even though AHC scored the only three points of the third quarter, the Monarchs had all the momentum.
L.A. Valley pulled to within 16-13 late in the fourth quarter. It was at this point that the Bulldogs exploded with the two huge plays. Quarterback Blake Sartini (Fr., Las Vegas, NV) connected on a 65 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Bugg (So., Atascadero HS) with just over seven minutes remaining. After Valley went three and out on their next possession, Drew Williams (Fr., Queens, NY) broke through the center of the defense for a 62 yard TD run that put the game out of reach.
Williams ended the night with 14 carries for 127 yards and two touchdowns. The first TD came in the second quarter on a nine yard scamper. Anthony Melton (Fr., Delano, CA) led the Bulldogs with 136 yards on 20 carries. AHC compiled 308 yards on the ground for the evening. Sartini connected on six passes for 155 yards, five of those were to Bugg for 137. Kicker Victor Velasco (Fr., Santa Maria HS) was perfect for the night with three field goals of 30, 34 and 20 yards and three extra points.
The defense was led by Rick Aguilar (Fr., Lompoc HS) who had 13 tackles. Bronson Barnett (So, Atascadero) had his fourth interception of the year and Trevor Meyers (So., Honolulu, HI) had his third. The Bulldogs now have 14 picks on the year.
Hancock next travels to Moorpark on Saturday, Nov. 6 in a game that could decide second place in the rugged Western State Conference North. KUHL/1440 am and KTME/1410 am will broadcast the game, with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:00
