SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College baseball opened the season with a two-game sweep of the Sequoias at John Osborne Field, using an early offensive spark in Game 1 and a resilient bullpen effort in Game 2. The pitching staff set the tone over the two-game sweep, allowing just two earned runs across 20 innings of work. The Bulldogs consistently limited damage, controlled innings, and kept the Sequoias' offense in check from the first pitch of Game 1 through the final outs of Game 2, providing the stability needed to win both games in different ways .
Game 1: Allan Hancock 6, Sequoias 2 BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs set the tone early in the opener. Parker Schwake launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as part of a three-run frame, giving Hancock a lead it would never surrender. Hancock added insurance runs in the middle innings while the pitching staff kept the Sequoias in check. Ryan Cronk turned in a strong start, and Gage Mattis closed out the game in relief to secure the win.
Game 2: Allan Hancock 3, Sequoias 2 (11 innings) BOX SCORE
Game 2 presented early adversity for the Bulldogs.
Starter Omar Reynoso was throwing it well before being forced to exit after being struck by a comebacker, leaving the game after four innings with Hancock still in position to win. From there, the bullpen took over and was outstanding the rest of the way. Gustavo Crawford and Shane Grant bridged the gap before Hunter Beck shut things down late, striking out five batters over three scoreless innings to earn the win as Hancock battled into extra innings to complete the sweep. Matt Kovach paced the offense with 4 hits including a triple.
