Carney’s Coaches vs. Cancer Night Set for February 4 vs. Cuesta
SANTA MARIA, Calif. — Allan Hancock College Athletics will host Carney's Coaches vs. Cancer Night on Tuesday, February 4, inside the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium, as the Bulldogs take on Cuesta College.
The annual event is held to raise awareness in the fight against cancer while honoring survivors and remembering those who have lost their battles. Carney's Coaches vs. Cancer Night has become a staple on the Hancock campus, uniting student-athletes, coaches, and the community around a shared cause.
The event was renamed in 2015 in honor of Larry Carney, a longtime women's basketball assistant coach and four-time cancer survivor. Carney was first diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 49 and has undergone extensive treatment throughout his journey, including hormone therapy, radiation, chemotherapy, and advanced imaging abroad. His connection to the cause is deeply personal, having lost both his father and brother to cancer.
In addition to game-night fundraising, Hancock Athletics is hosting Coins for a Cure, a campus-wide coin drive with collection locations set up throughout campus leading up to the event. The initiative provides students, staff, and community members another opportunity to contribute and support the cause.
All proceeds from ticket sales, concession sales, Coins for a Cure, and on-site donations will benefit Marian Medical Center's Mission Hope Cancer Center. Tickets can be purchased at ahcbulldogs.com/ticketing.
