Hancock Football Beats El Camino 33-20
The Bulldogs won their home opener against El Camino College 33-20 on Saturday, Sept. 8, improving their record to 2-0 this season.
Hancock scored first, after the team's defense forced a fumble recovered by Bryon Herndon on the El Camino one yard line. Cameron Artis-Payne ran it in for the touchdown. El Camino answered with a touchdown at the nine minute mark, marking the only time in the game El Camino held the lead, 7-6 going into the second quarter.
The Bulldogs had an explosive second quarter, putting 20 points up on the board. Artis-Payne started with a 62-yard run capped off by a 2-point conversion rush. He had one other touchdopwn in the second quarter, a three yard run and receiver Nicko Shellow finished the quarter, scoring on an 18-yard touchdown pass. Connor Allen caught the Bulldog's final touchdown of the game, a 33-yard pass in the third quarter.
Artis-Payne finished the game with 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Brandon Jeffries threw for 162 yards with two touchdown passes. Shellow led the team in receiving yards with 67, closely followed by Allen with 62. Each scored one touchdown.
Hancock travels to Golden West on Saturday, Sept. 15.
