Five Water Polo Players Earn Conference Honors, Miller Named Coach of the Year

After a 14-win season and fourth place finish at the Western State Conference Tournament, five Allan Hancock College women's water polo players earned conference honors, and first-year head coach Dominique Miller was named Conference Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Rebecca Gonzalez earned All-Conference First Team recognition for the second year in a row. The Nipomo High School graduate finished second on the team with 59 goals and tied for the team lead with 31 assists. She added 42 steals.

Sophomore Nikki Gurgiolo and freshman Shannon Copeland were named to the Second Team. Gurgiolo finished with 33 goals, 30 assists and 46 steals. The Righetti High School graduate scored a career-high four goals in the team's upset win over L.A. Valley in the first round of the Conference Tournament. Copeland was the team's leading scorer with 65 goals. She also had 20 assists and 34 steals.

Meagan Coyne, who finished third on the team with 53 goals and led the squad with 62 steals, and goalie Kinsley Edman received honorable mention. Edman, a Cabrillo High School graduate, had 99 saves in the cage for the Bulldogs.

Miller became the first Hancock coach to win the conference's top coaching honor. Under Miller, the Bulldogs went 14-16 overall and 3-7 in league play.
