Batty Breaks School Record, Bulldogs Earn 12 Top-Five Finishes at Bakersfield Relays

Allan Hancock College's Haleigh Batty won two individual events and broke a college record, while Cherry Inay won her first collegiate event to help the Bulldogs earn 12 top-five finishes during the Bakersfield Relays on Saturday.

Batty won the women's high jump and long jump competitions. The Cabrillo High School graduate won her fourth long jump competition of the season with a mark of 18 feet, one inch. The freshman cleared 5-1.75 to win the women's high jump event for the second time this year. She broke the program record of 5-1 that was set back in 1994.

Inay won the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.50 seconds. She also finished third in the 400 hurdles.

Carina Rodriguez crossed the finish line third in the women's 1,500 run with a time of 5:30.

Freshman thrower Destiny Goggins placed third in the women's shot put with a mark of 31-5, and came in seventh in the hammer throw of 66-3.

The team of Inay, Rodriguez, Amaris Baxter and sophomore Michaella Praska finished third in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:45.

On the men's side, Ben Wulfestieg finished second in the men's shot put with a toss of 41 feet, two inches. The Cabrillo High School graduate also placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 139 feet.

Yovany Pineda finished third in the men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:08. The freshman also placed fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:27. David Tyler, a Santa Maria High School graduate, placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:59. Eduardo Uribe placed fifth in the 5K by finishing in 17:21.

The Bulldogs will return to action Saturday, March 24 at the Cal Poly Invitational.
