Host Allan Hancock College, College of the Siskiyous, College of the Sequoias and L.A. Harbor won their first-round games during opening day of the 20th annual Lady Bulldog Classic on Thursday.
The day opened with Siskiyous, the No.13 ranked team in the latest state poll, defeating Cuesta 81-63. The Eagles outscored the Cougars 23-10 in the second quarter to pull away in the first half. Kasey Cain led Siskiyous with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Nichelle Lafoon added 20 points and 10 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds. Courtney Barba led the Cougars with 37 points behind a 16-29 shooting performance.
Karly Beyers scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, another career high, to lead the host Lady Bulldogs to an 83-53 victory over a team from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Grace Rosa added 20 points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Lee-Hammer finished with 16 points. Mychea Williams led the Lady Hawks with 25 points.
LA Harbor edged Orange Coast 74-68 thanks to 26 points from Roxanna Gorostieta, 20 points and 11 rebounds from Kristina Brown and 18 points by Kristy Takahashi. Orange Coast outscored Harbor 13-6 in the third quarter to start the fourth with a 50-49 lead. Aubriona Mathis led Orange Coast with 16 points and 20 rebounds, while Isabella Hollibaugh recorded her own double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.
Zharia McCollum scored 21 points to help College of the Sequoias stay undefeated with an 88-60 win over Santa Barbara City College. Sophia Torres and Holly Barrera added 12 points apiece for Sequoias, the No. 3 team in the state and top-ranked team in the North Region. Aaliyah Paudling led the Vaqueros with 14 points along with five rebounds. Sophia Torres and Holly Barrera finished with 12 points apiece.
