Registration is under way for a summer youth clinic offered by the Allan Hancock college men's basketball team. The clinic will run from Monday, August 5, through Thursday, August 8, inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on the college's Santa Maria campus. Instruction will take place from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
"We want to keep infusing the community with excitement about basketball and Hancock," said Head Coach Tyson Aye, who has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back 23-win seasons and regional playoff appearances. "Last year, more than 100 area kids attended our clinics. We want the tradition of kids playing and watching basketball in our gym year-round to continue."
Aye, assistant coaches, and players will teach kids of all skill levels the basics of the game and further develop their skills.
In the last month, six of Aye's former players have signed scholarships to continue playing at four-year universities, bringing the total to 31 since he took over the program in 2013.
To register children for the clinics, sign up at the gym prior to the start of a clinic, or visit athletics.hancockcollege.edu/camps/basketball_camps. The cost for a child to attend a session is $85. Make checks payable to AHC Men's Basketball.
